Will Book 7, Pages 49 & 50
In the name of God amen. I James Ogborne of Brunswick County being sick & weak of body but in perfect mind & memory thanks be to God for the same do make & ordain this my last Will & Testament in manner & form as follows, to wit,
Imprimis I lend to my beloved wife Winny Ogborne my three Negroes Beck, Sal & Duncan during her natural life Also I lend her One hundred & fifty acres of Land whereon I now live lying on the South side of Callaham Road as it now runs together with all my Household & Kitchen furniture except what I shall herein after devise in order for her to raise my three youngest children upon Also I lend her my old Bay Mare & young bay Horse called (Affrica) together with all the balance of my stock except what I shall herein after devise after selling a sufficiency thereof to pay my just debts if it should be necessary. Item I give unto my daughter Polly Tatum my Negroe boy Bob which she has now in possession.
Item I give unto my son John Ogburne one half of my land lying on the North side of Callaham’s Road also one Negree boy Davy one feather bed & furniture & one cow & calf. Item I give unto my son Edward Ogburne the other half of my land lying on the North side of Callahams Road one Negroe boy named Jack one feather bed & furniture & one cow & calf.
Item I give my daughter Lucy Ogburne one Negroe girl named Deurey one feather bed & furniture my Cyclops Colt & one bridle & saddle & one cow & calf.
Item I give unto my son Henry We Ogborne that part of my land herein devised to my wife after her death one Negroe boy Tom one Horse bridle & saddle one feather bed & furniture & one cow & calf.
Item I give unto my daughter Elizabeth Weaver Ogburne one Negroe girl named Anna one Horse Bridle & Saddle one feather bed & furniture one cow & calf.
Item I give unto my Daughter Nancy Ogborne one Negroe Girl named Marow one Horse Bridle and Saddle one feather Bed & furniture & one cow & calf.
Item all the residue of my estate that I have lent to my wife (not already devised) my Will & desire is that my Exors. at my wifes death shall pay unto my two youngest daughters Eliza & Nancy Ogborne Twelve pounds ten shillings each & then the balance to be equally divided between my Seven children John, Edward, Lucy, Henry, Elizabeth & Nancy Ogborne & Polly Tatum
Lastly I nominate & appoint my friends John Neblett, Benjamin Ogburne, Charles Ogburne, Thomas Adams & my wife Winny Ogburn & my son John Ogburn Trustees to this my last Will & Testament. And I do hereby Ratify & confirm whatsoever they do & about these premises to be lawful.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this 3rd day of July one thousand eight hundred & four.

Brunswick County Court September 24th 1804 This last Will & Testament of James Ogborne dec’d was proved by the oaths of two witnesses thereto & ordered to be recorded & on the motion of John I.Teblett he having made Oath thereto according to law and together with Peter Hawthorn his security entered into & acknowledged a bond in the penalty of Five thousand Dollars conditioned as the law directs. Certificare is granted him for obtaining letters of administration will annexed on the decedents estate.
